China is a huge and diverse country with a very long history. It is located in the eastern part of the Asian Continent on the western coast of the Pacific. With the land size of 9.6 million square km, China is the third largest in the world, after Russia and Canada. With over 1.2 billion population, China has the largest population in the world. China is adjacent with many countries by land and sea. By land: Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam. By sea: the Republic of Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia. The continued economic growth witnessed in Mainland China in recent years, has already started to attract a large number of foreign investments from all over the world. In addition, China will host a number of world major events in the next few years. On July 13th, 2001 at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow, Beijing was elected the Host City for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. Shortly after, the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), on December 3rd, 2002, announced that Shanghai will host World Expo 2010. The world’s fair will be held just two years after Beijing will host the 2008 Summer Olympic Game.
